Atriax Project Snapshots
Construction Begins for ADA-Accessible Lake Access on Former "Gentleman's Country Estate"
Atriax Group has entered the construction phase for a new ADA-compatible path meandering from the parking lot at Moses H. Cone Memorial Park to Bass Lake. The 25-mile loop around the manmade lake was created as part of a 3,500-acre retreat owned by Moses Cone, an entrepreneur who brought denim production to Greensboro, NC. In 1897, Moses began work on his Blowing Rock getaway that featured carriage trails, orchards, fields and forest. In 1949, the estate became part of the Blue Ridge Parkway.
Atriax is fortunate to have cultivated a history designing and constructing historic projects for the Blue Ridge Parkway. Construction for this project should be complete by June 2025.

Murfreesboro Ward 1B
Construction is complete for this renovation of a nursing unit on the third floor of a historic building at the Alvin C. York VA Medical Center in Murfreesboro, TN. Private and semi-private rooms were transformed into all-private rooms for long-term care. Atriax partnered with TLC Engineering Solutions and Wold Architects & Engineers on this project.

Philpott Dam Design is Underway
Philpott Dam is located in Henry and Franklin Counties, VA, which is approximately seven miles north of Bassett, VA. The dam is a mass concrete gravity dam, consisting of two non-overflow sections, a power intake section, and a non-gated spillway section.
The Atriax/Zapata JV, with subcontractor Black and Veatch, has completed 35% design of a new anchorage and instrumentation system for the dam. Following an extensive field investigation and production of a comprehensive stability report, the team has moved forward with design under a modification granted by the US Army Corp of Engineers. The design on this nearly $6M project should be complete by the end of the year.
Steve Collar is our project manager; Sally Osborne has assisted with specifications; and Sarah Caliendo is our civil engineer reviewer/QC on the project. The design will include installation of spillway anchors, automated anchor load sensors, inclinometers in several monoliths, and crack gauge and piezometer automation.

Jefferson Barracks--Sylvan Springs Addition
Atriax has completed their civil design on the Sylvan Springs addition to Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery. This 37+-acre adjacent parcel was part of Sylvan Springs Park. Transferring it to the cemetery required demolition of existing structures and extensive sitework. New sitework included adding gravesites, drainage and grading, removal of existing and coordination of new utilities, sediment and erosion control, environmental permitting, landscaping and new roadways. Lots of manhours were catalogued on this addition --with special acknowledgement to Justin Keener and Vianca Garcia. John Gallup & Associates is the prime contractor.

Post Occupancy Evaluations (POEs)
A post occupancy evaluation is the 5th and final step in the Evidence Based Design process. It measures a wide range of building performance results and is based on research after the building has been occupied for at least 12 months. The objectives of a POE include:
- providing feedback to the design teams
- providing information to support future designs
- generate new knowledge
- corroborate effectiveness of prototypes and innovations
- clarify programming issues and fine tune a facility
- research the effects of buildings on their occupants
- justify design decisions and expenditures
Sally Osborne recently finished a POE on Atriax's headquarters building with favorable results. We are tweaking the process in order to offer this valuable service to our clients.

Conferences
Spring has also been a busy time for conferences. Atriax attended the North Carolina Military Business Conference in Wilmington and the Ajera Conference in New Orleans in April. May will find us at the Society of American Military Engineers' (SAME) Joint Engineer Training Conference & Expo in Louisville.

Atriax Moments
Atriax employees and their families have been challenging themselves this spring in a variety of community races such as the New Belgium marathon in Asheville and the Leprechaun Leap 5K in Lenoir.
